What is Biohacking? A Beginner’s Guide to Taking Control of Your Biology
Here at WaveBlock®, we like to consider ourselves biohackers. We found a pervasive health issue and created a product to help people feel better and safer overall.
But what is biohacking?
Biohacking is the practice of making small, experimental changes in your life to optimize your physical and mental health. It’s a way to allow humans to function at peak performance and even extend lifespan. Biohacking employs methods from fields like biology, neuroscience, and nutrition. We will get into different types of biohacking and some examples in a little bit.
This practice’s roots can be traced back to the 1980s as a “DIY biology movement.” However, it really gained traction in the 2010s, with the influence of what we’d call “founding fathers of biohacking” like Dave Asprey. The fascination seems to grow as more people focus on lifespan, alternative healthcare, and personalized medicine. It’s helped people feel younger, cope with issues like chronic pain, and much more. To put it simply, it’s taking matters into your own hands by figuring out ways you can feel better based on your experiences.
What Are the Categories of Biohacking?
According to Forbes, there are four different categories of biohacking.
- Lifestyle - This focuses on making small shifts and behavior choices that increase performance and longevity, including things like dietary changes, meditation, and exercise.
- Molecular - This is where you use natural and synthetic molecules to shift your biology. Think things like supplements, vitamins, etc.
- Biologics - According to Dr. Kien Vuu, “biologics function like some sort of human cellular material.” Examples include things that can be injected or ingested like stem cells or IV transfusions. This can include prescription and non-medical options.
- Technology - Biohacking uses technology (like smart watches) to gather data so that you can improve on what your body is telling you.
Some aspects of biohacking are well researched and others are more niche. The WaveBlock® team always recommends using caution when making lifestyle changes, and we can only vouch for our specific products as a way of biohacking radiation exposure from tech.
How WaveBlock Fits Into the Biohacking World
With so much access to information, it’s no wonder people are trying to hack their way into better biology. The WaveBlock® team hacked a way to protect people from EMF radiation coming off their tech devices. We have done hours of research that shows that consistent exposure to EMF radiation from things like laptops, cellphones, wireless earbuds, and many other tech devices can cause serious health issues like infertility, tissue damage, and even cancer.
As biohacking suggests, the WaveBlock® team took control of human biology by using personal experimentation to create products that can help keep us safe. At a minimal level, consistent exposure to EMF radiation can cause headaches or poor mood. We have had several customers tell us that since adding WaveBlock® stickers to their devices, they have noticed a significant decrease in EMF sensitivity. They also tell us that they feel safer knowing they are exposed to less radiation even if they don’t currently have EMF sensitivity.
Our WaveBlock® stickers are lab tested and proven to disperse the radiation coming off your devices away from you. Depending on which sticker you have, you will get up to an 87% decrease in radiation exposure. Instead of avoiding anything that causes radiation, WaveBlock® helps you biohack your way into a healthier option when using your tech.
What Are Examples of Biohacking?
Remember that the important part of biohacking is that it’s a process of self experimentation. What might work for one person may not work for you. However, here are some mainstream examples of biohacking:
- Cold plunging and ice baths as a form of energizing, vagus nerve stimulation, and waking up.
- Heat therapy and saunas to help detoxify your body
- The use of smart devices and other feedback tools to help you learn more about your body.
- Red light therapy for healing, recovery, anti-aging, and more.
- Supplements that increase athletic performance like creatine and amino acids.
- Using blue light blocking glasses to lessen blue light exposure at night to help with sleep.
- Getting 20 minutes of natural sunlight within the first 20 minutes of waking up to start your cortisol peak.
